It’s a little over two months until season two of Marvel’s Daredevil is released on Netflix (click here for Welshy’s insight into the excellent first season), but there are reports from TVLine that Jon Bernthal’s version of The Punisher might be getting a spin-off series of his own.
If confirmed – and this is little more than specualtion right now – The Punisher will join an impressive line-up of Marvel characters on Netflix, which already include Daredevil and Jessica Jones, and a Luke Cage series premiering this year. A series on Iron Fist is in the works as well, eventually leading to a Defenders series, which would see all of these characters join together.
I think he would be a good fit in the world Netflix and Marvel are creating. The tone of Daredevil and Jessica Jones first seasons suggest that Netflix would be happy to go as dark as the makers want, which would be perfect for The Punisher, which has… shall we say had issues with translating to the screen in the past.
Having said that, Jon Bernthal is a pretty big name, will they be able to tie him down? And with that many Marvel characters (and Agent Carter on a different channel) how would Netflix go about scheduling them?
We’ll have to wait and see.
Want more? Way back when Tom Hardy was linked with a film version, Dan had some fun casting The Punisher, have a read. I reckon he got pretty close with his last choice! Heck, even his first choice was in the same show as Bernthal.
