Welcome to the TV Film of the Week. The name says it all! The Snooty Ushers have put their heads together to recommend a couple of films that you can watch this week on TV.
NB since we are all still ushers at heart, our weeks will start on a Friday.
So, our TV Film of the Week is:
Predator (BBFC Rating 18, John McTeirnan, 1987)
Channel 4, Saturday 13th February, 23:20
A sci-fi action classic. Arnold Schwarzenegger and his crack team of commandos are dropped into a South American jungle on a rescue mission and come up against an unstoppable alien killing machine. Brilliant.
An alternative choice, our other TV Film of the Week is….
Field of Dreams (BBFC Rating PG, Philip Alden Robinson, 1989)
Film 4, Sunday 14th February, 18:55
A wonderful film about a man who hears a mysterious voice in his corn field “If you build it, he will come”. He then builds a baseball diamond and it is soon filled with the spirits of dead baseball players. Kevin Costner is brilliant in the lead as the guy who risks everything and is rewarded in a way he could never imagine. A touching treat.
For your consideration
The best of the rest:
Con Air (BBFC Rating 18, Simon West, 1997) Cage film of the week, he plays an Army Ranger on his way home from prison who is caught up in a jailbreak…on a plane! Thrilling action film from Cage at his best. 5*, Friday 12th February, 21:00
Beethoven (BBFC Rating U, Brian Levant, 1992) A family classic starring Charles Grodin and a massive St Bernard. Great family fun. ITV2, Saturday 13th February, 15:00
Twins (BBFC Rating PG, Ivan Rietman, 1988) Schwarzenegger and DeVito play genetically modified twins, one got all the good DNA, the other got the rest. Another 80s classic. ITV1, Saturday 13th February, 22:35
Pride and Prejudice (BBFC Rating PG, Joe Wright, 2005) Nice adaptation of the Jane Austin classic. Beautifully shot by Joe Wright and Keira Knightly makes a great Lizzie Bennett. Film 4, Sunday 14th February, 13:00
Homefront (BBFC Rating 15, Gary Fleder, 2013) The Snooty Ushers favourite actor has to defend his family from some local drug dealers. Let’s be honest this is Stath, there will only be one winner. 5, Sunday 14th February, 21:00
The Bourne Supremacy, (BBFC Rating 12A, Paul Greengrass, 2004) Matt Damon plays Jason Bourne for the 2nd time. Arguably the best of the trilogy. Smart actioner. ITV2, Monday 15th February, 21:00
White House Down, (BBFC Rating 12A, Roland Emmerich, 2013) The second of the President in peril films from that year, with this coming out as the winner for me. Much more fun than Olympus Has Fallen. ITV2, Wednesday 17th February, 21:00
Serenity (BBFC Rating 12A, Joss Whedon, 2002) A perfect goodbye to the much loved characters of the Whedon’s criminally short lived TV series. Funny, tragic and so full of hope. Wonderful. Film 4, Thursday 18th February, 23:30
There we go. We hope there’s something you like! See you next week when The Snooty Ushers choose their TV Film Of The Week!
