TV Film Of The Week – 12th August

Welcome to the TV Film of the Week. The name says it all! The Snooty Ushers have put their heads together to recommend a couple of films that you can watch this week on TV.

We’re really late this week, but it if you are reading this before 9pm on Friday, there’s Jason Statham’s Parker on 5* and Simon Pegg and Nick Frost’s excellent Paul on Film4.

NB since we are all still ushers at heart, our weeks will start on a Friday.

So, our TV Film of the Week is:

The Breakfast Club
(BBFC Rating 15, John Hughes, 1985)

Wednesday 17th August, 23:15

One of the classics of 80s cinema. John Hughes’s story of a group of high schoolers sent to detention, who find they have more in common than they ever imagined..

An alternative choice, our other TV Film of the Week is….

Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes
(BBFC Rating 12A, Rupert Wyatt, 2011)

rise of the planet of the apes

Channel 4
Saturday 13th August, 20:00

Spoiler – the actual rise of the planet of the apes takes place in the credits at the end. This is the story of a scientist carrying out research into Alzheimers, which leads to him bestowing intelligence upon Cesear, who ends up freeing his ape brothers.

For your consideration

And since I’m here, these are my thoughts on the best of the rest:

A Fish Called Wanda (BBFC Rating 15, Charles Crichton, 1988) – Perhaps John Cleese’s last great comedic film, Jamie Lee Curtis, Kevin Kline, and Michael Palin are all excellent. ITV, Friday 12th August, 22:40

Faster (BBFC Rating 15, George Tillman Jr, 2010) – For me, Dwayne Johnson’s best role, as he is a driver who was betrayed by the gang he was driving for. When he comes out of prison, he has one thing on his mind: pizza. revenge. Film4, Tuesday 16th August, 22:45

Big (BBFC Rating 12, Penny Marshall, 1988) – And it’s only 3 this week, as a I missed the 9pm Friday night slot. Tom Hanks’ first great role, and it’s almost as much fun as the first time you watched it.. Film4, Wednesday 17th August, 18:55

There we go. Short one this week, but w hope there’s  something you like in there! See you next week when The Snooty Ushers choose their TV Film Of The Week!

Until next time, stay gold, Ponyboy, stay gold. See you soonish.

that's all folks
